How to · 3 steps

Step by step

  1. 1

    Record

Click Record and pick a tab, a window or your whole screen.

  2. 2

    Tidy up

Tidy up trims the ends, speeds up the pauses and suggests zooms where the action was.

  3. 3

    Export a GIF

Pick where it’s going and Lazygif fits the GIF under that limit.

Record small for a sharp GIF

Shrinking a full Retina screen to 800 px shrinks every label with it. Record a single tab or a smaller window instead: the GIF comes out sharper and smaller.

  • Hide bookmarks bars, notifications and personal tabs first.
  • Move the mouse deliberately and pause before each click.
  • 12–15 fps is smooth for UI; 10 fps is enough for a terminal.

Polish that costs almost nothing

A Background from the Canvas menu adds padding, rounded corners and a shadow, and barely adds to the file because it never changes. A Zoom on the action keeps small UI readable.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Can I record my screen as a GIF on a Mac?
Yes, in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. Nothing to install, and it works the same on Windows, Linux and ChromeOS.
Does it record audio?
GIFs have no sound. If you need your voice, export MP4 from the same edit.
Can I record on my phone?
No, mobile browsers don’t allow screen capture. Record with your phone’s built-in recorder, then open the video in Lazygif.
How long can a screen recording GIF be?
Under 10 MB at 800 px and 15 fps, a typical UI recording fits about 10–20 seconds.
