How to · 3 steps

Step by step

  1. 1

    Open your GIF or video

Drop in a GIF or the source video.

  2. 2

    Drag a crop

Press C and drag a box, free or locked to 1:1, 16:9 or 4:3; for 4:5 or 9:16, pick that shape in Canvas.

  3. 3

    Export

Pick where it’s going and Lazygif sets the width and fits the file.

Which shape for where

The shape decides how much space the GIF takes in a feed or a page.

  • 16:9: READMEs, docs, X and slides.
  • 1:1: chat, emoji and multi-image grids.
  • 4:5: LinkedIn and other mobile feeds.
  • 9:16: stories and full-screen mobile.

Crop first, then scale

If the important part is a 900 px panel in a 2880 px recording, shrinking the whole frame to 800 px leaves the panel at 250 px. Crop to the panel first and it stays full size, and the GIF gets smaller too.
