How to · 3 steps

Step by step

  1. 1

    Open the recording

Drop in a file from QuickTime, Zoom, Loom or OBS, or click Record.

  2. 2

    Cut it down

Trim with I and O, split with S, and add Zoom, Blur or Text.

  3. 3

    Export MP4 or GIF

Pick Video for an MP4 with your voice, or GIF for a silent loop.

Cut with the keyboard

Move the playhead to the exact frame and cut there, instead of dragging tiny handles.

  • Space plays and pauses; J, K, L shuttle.
  • ← and → step a frame; hold Shift to jump a second.
  • I and O trim the clip’s start and end to the playhead.
  • S splits; Delete removes the piece and closes the gap.

MP4 or GIF?

Export MP4 when there’s a voice, it runs past about 20 seconds, or people will press play anyway. Your sound stays in sync with every cut, and you can mute any clip.

Export GIF when it should play by itself: a README, a pull request, a help article. See screen recording to GIF.
