FAQ
Questions, answered
Do I need to install anything?
No app, extension or account. Recording works in Chrome, Edge and Firefox on a computer, and Safari on a Mac.
Is it really private?
Yes. Recording, editing and encoding all happen in your browser, and your videos are never uploaded. We count page visits and which tools are used, with no cookies.
Is it free? Is there a watermark?
Free, with no sign-up and no watermark. Your own device does the encoding, so there are no server costs to pass on.
How big can my GIF be?
It depends on where it’s going: 10 MB for GitHub, 20 MB for Discord, 128 KB for a Slack emoji, about 1 MB for email. See GIF size limits.
Should I export a GIF or a video?
A GIF when it should loop inline with no click; MP4 when there’s a voice or it runs past about 20 seconds. Lazygif exports both from the same edit.
Does it work on mobile?
Editing and exporting do. Recording needs a computer, because phones don’t let web pages capture the screen.
